CEREMONIES & RITUALS
“Ritual is a means of attuning ourselves with one another, to the land, and to the
invisible worlds of spirit. Recovering this fundamental skill would help us better
tend to the needs of our soul and culture.”
~ Francis Weller, The Wild Edge of Sorrow
The ancient activity of creating and enacting rituals has served spiritual beings on the human journey for millennia. In particular, rituals have enabled humanity to access their inherent, divine spark to cultivate hope and meaning in the midst of life’s sweeping changes and ongoing seasons and cycles. To that end, individuals and communities throughout history have been inspired to mark rites
of passage with a concrete exercise to commemorate their experiences. Examples of this span the gamut of welcoming the birth of a new family member and reverently keeping Sabbath to healing from trauma and losses, transitioning into a new job, different home or from this life into death and beyond.
The Mission Bridge creates both in-person and virtual opportunities to explore the value of rituals with participants and empower them to welcome their transformative impact more noticeably into their spiritual journey. Programs designed by the Mission Bridge will include various components that recognize and uplift individual and collective experiences as our human community continues to navigate the pandemic and its aftermath. To spiritually mark participant-identified thresholds, ceremonies and rituals offered will be composed of cherished practices such as prayer readings, meditation, journaling, and other creative exercises. A primary goal of each experience is to honor a recent or upcoming transition or to manifest healing and balance as participants process and integrate personal grief and trauma. Basic supplies will be provided to participants, including essential items for engaging in personalized programs, whether intended for individuals, families, or groups. Participants are invited and encouraged to collaborate with the Mission Bridge in creating and facilitating any desired ceremony/ritual.
“This is what rituals are for. We do spiritual ceremonies as human beings in order to create a safe resting place for our most complicated feelings of joy or trauma, so that we don't have to haul those feelings around with us forever, weighing us down. We all need such places of ritual safekeeping.”
~ Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love
